Their vision of a garden combines different cultures, who influence the atmosphere, the surroundings, the sensory experience... After all, a garden is as much about dreams and contemplation as about bougainvillea or bamboo. Andy Cao, 42, an American artist of Vietnamese origin and Xavier Perrot, 28, a Breton landscape designer, have been carefully tending their field of activity, located somewhere between art and landscape, where inorganic elements, flowers and living trees communicate with each other. For them, the plantless garden is included in the natural evolution of the story they tell, as long as it stays poetic and serene. Andy Cao studied architecture before switching to landscape architecture. His first creations, the Glass Gardens in recycled materials–before anyone took interest in recycling–propelled him on the international scene. Xavier Perrot, who studied landscaping, has an understanding of plants that gave Andy’s work its missing dimension. In the near future, the two will focus their energy on a 240-ha public park in Shenzhen, China. If on a different scale for them, this project, like all their work, will be in harmony with the spirit of the place and with their own sense of adventure.
